The Backbone Trail zigzags across a large preemptive firebreak on the north side of Saddle Peak. A lot of work is done well ahead of the active fire, just in case. Other preemptive firebreaks for the Palisades Fire were created along the Mesa Peak Mtwy segment of the Backbone Trail. May 25, 2025.
