Running down from Lasky Mesa, I was descending the long switchback above the Victory Trailhead when I encountered a relatively large Southern Pacific rattlesnake serpentining across the dirt road. It was a mature snake, with about 13 rattle segments. As I watched the rattlesnake it switched from lateral undulation to a combination of rectilinear and concertina locomotion to climb over a berm along a dirt road. October 10, 2023.
